Ambassador Wilkins Visit to Nunavut - October 20-21, 2005

Ambassador Wilkins visited Iqaluit, Nunavut Territory, October 20-21, 2005. In addition to meeting with Nunavut leaders, the Ambassador presented an "American Shelf" to the Nunavut Arctic College, on behalf of the United States. The American Shelf collection of books and DVDs offers readers, students, faculty and the public information about the United States, its government, economy, education, society and culture. Books from the American Shelf collection will be located in both Iqaluit and Rankin Inlet.

In Iqaluit, the Ambassador met with Premier Okalik, Nunavut Tunngavik Incorporated President Paul Kaludjak, Ambassador for Circumpolar Affairs Jack Anawak, ICC Chair Sheila Watt-Cloutier, Mayor Pitsiulak and other Nunavut representatives. He welcomed the opportunity to meet Habitat for Humanity volunteers and praised their efforts on behalf of their community. The Ambassador's visit to Nunavut, his first since being named Ambassador, reflects America's long-standing friendship with the people of Nunavut and our commitment to further developing educational, cultural and trade ties with the people of Nunavut.
