American Artists Participate in 2005 Great Northern Arts Festival

Jane Carr, an American artist based in Treadwell, New York, took part in this year's Great Northern Arts Festival, held in Inuvik, NWT, July 15-24th. This wasn't Jane's first visit to Canada's north; in fact, she's driven the Dempster Highway four times. During one of these trips, in 1989, Jane discovered the Great Northern Arts Festival in its inaugural year. She returned to Inuvik and the Festival in 1993, and officially participated for the first time in 1998. She returned in 2003 and again in 2004. Jane paints in egg tempera, and the majority of her work reflects her affection for the western Catskill Mountains of New York State, where she lives, and Northern Canada, which she loves.

Itai Katz was born and raised in Israel and presently resides in Tsiigetchic, Northwest Territories, with his brother Gilad, a well known photographer in the Beaufort Delta. Itai moved to the United States when in his late 20's, and became a citizen in 1996. Itai has been painting for 20 years. He is self-taught and enjoys the creativity of being an artist. His somewhat abstract but representational paintings are inspired by his life experiences. He has exhibited his work in Israel, California, Ontario and Inuvik.
